Dismissal Procedures

STUDENT DISMISSAL PROCEDURES

General or Early Dismissal at Close of School Day
Students are dismissed at 2:40 PM. Those students not involved in co-curricular activities, athletics, or meetings with staff are expected to leave the building at that time and return home. Any request for a change in the time or plan for dismissal of an individual student must be addressed to the Principal and must be received in writing on the morning of the requested change in procedure. There are a number of early dismissal days which are noted on the full school calendar, available on the District website and in the Middle School Handbook which each student receives on opening day.

Emergency School Closing
The decision to close the schools during the school day (for storms, heating problems, or other emergencies) will be made only by the Superintendent of Schools. The New Providence School District utilizes the Reverse 911 Emergency Telephone Calling System for mass notifications to parents and staff. This is the same system used by the Borough. Within minutes of an emergency, such as a school closing, each registered telephone number will have been called and messages will be left on answering machines in the event the call is not answered. In an emergency closing, Middle School students will be dismissed and advised to leave the building and return home immediately. If you wish to request that your child follow a different procedure, you must make that request in writing to the Principal.
