Frequently Asked Questions

Q) What do I do if I have misplaced or forgotten my Scoir log in information?
A)  Once students have registered, they can log into Scoir with your NPSD Google email address.  If students or parents have not registered and need another invitation sent, contact Mr. Davy Goncalves, Counseling Department Secretary.

Q)  How do I request a transcript in Scoir?
A)  Moving a college to the "Applying to" or "Applied to" column automatically triggers a transcript request.

Q)  What is FERPA?
A)  FERPA stands for Family Education Rights Privacy Act and controls access to documents such as letters of recommendation at a college admissions office.  Please see your Senior Survival Kit or the U.S. Department of Education's website for further information.

Q)  Does New Providence High School rank?
A)  No, New Providence High School does not rank.

Q)  How do I apply to colleges using the Self-Reported Academic Record (SRAR)?
A)  A growing number of schools use an online platform called the Self-Reported Academic Record (SRAR) in lieu of a transcript sent to them by NPHS.  Use the unofficial transcript you receive via email the first week of Senior year to enter your grades into the SRAR exactly as they appear.  Transcripts are only sent to SRAR school once the student has decided to attend.  Rutgers' SRAR website has good information about the process in general.

Q)  Do I have to send SAT scores from College Board and/or ACT scores directly from ACT?
A)  Unless the college directly indicates they will accept self-reported scores or a screenshot from your College Board/ACT portal, yes, scores need to be sent to the colleges directly from College Board or ACT.  A student may request scores at the time of test registration or after a test through their portal. Scores sent from the high school are not considered official.

Q)  Do teachers send out their own letters of recommendation?
A)  Usually, yes.  If the college accepts electronic documents (most do), teachers' letters are sent electronically once the student requests them in the Common Application or through the College's own application portal.  As a last resort, please give an addressed, stamped envelope to the teacher.  See your Senior Survival Kit for more information about this.  If you're unsure, you can always contact the college's admissions representative to ask how they prefer to receive recommendations.
